After four years of ownership, reading the post on this site and doing my own engine work, there is no indication that the 4 speed (80s) motor cannot be swapped out for the five speed (90s+). I believe there is no difference in engine size. Suzuki was apparently able to add the fifth gear without expanding the cases. As far as street bikes go, the Savage is probably the easiest engine to swap. That's one of the major appeals of this bike right? The simplicity. Go for it.
